Penguicon has ended and I must say it was a very good time. We here at WAGON would like to thank the spiffy people of the convention for their hospitality and all of their hard work. I hope that we'll be invited back to attend next year.

Now that Penguicon is over and Gamma Deck is free and clear, we'll be starting the task of amassing the participants of the next deck to come... currently referred to as Delta Deck. As a good jumpstart on this deck we already have a number of participants to look out for, and one that even already has their artwork done and ready to rock. Here's the current list of potential Delta Deck participants:

Blue Sky
Beta PWND
Autumn Lake
Yu+ME: dream
Sister Claire
Union of Heroes
The FIRST Team

We also have a super extra special guest participant that may be in the works... I don't want to say too much in case it doesn't work out, but it'll be awesome if we can pull it off. More news as it develops!

Also, as a spiffy lil nugget from the convention, here we have a fresh new episode of The Webcomic Beacon that was recorded live at Penguicon.

We're gearing up for our arrival at Penguicon this coming weekend, and it promises to be a very good time. We've got the new Gamma Deck printed up and ready to make it's world debute at the convention and in the mailboxes of everyone who's pre-ordered it, we've got disussion panels to participate in throughout the weekend, and we've got a few extras like WAGON rulebooks and gaming supplies ready to go!

As an extra item, just because my enthusiasm ran away with me, I went and created a brand new shirt design featuring a very close personal confidant of mine, Mike the GameMaster:

In mid February, Karen Ellis, the creator of popular diary webcomic Planet Karen, was made homeless and nearly possession-less by a fire in the apartment above hers, which resulted in the tragic death of the occupant.

The comics community rallied, and thanks to generous donations of money and equipment, Karen was able to replace some of her art supplies and find a new place to live. Her gratitude and determination are recorded on Planet Karen, but she is still unable to replace many of her possessions.

Girl-Wonder.org is delighted to announce a fundraising auction for Karen, thanks to the generous donations of the comics community. The auction runs until 30th March, and includes items as diverse as an “incredibly wordy” Wonderella giftset, handbags, jewellery, an original Phil Noto Black Widow Sketch, a set of game decks from WAGON Webcomic Battle, and the original artwork of this post-fire Planet Karen strip.

For more information, please contact Karen Healey at karen.healey@girl-wonder.org.

The cardcount for the new deck continues to grow. Within the next few weeks we should be getting a large number of cards mocked up and into the Lab, and we'll be shooting for finishing up the new deck to be unveiled during our visit to Penguicon during the first weekend of May. Here's a current list of the comics we have developing cards:

67th Avenue
Cartridge
The Apple of Discord
Rune Master: Tales of a Demon Slayer
Blue Sky
Kat Nap
Captain SNES: the Game Masta

We're also working very hard to get the game's rules fleshed out inthe How to Play section of the site and then to have a downloadable version of an offical handbook available to all to print out. While we work on this, we'd like to ask that anyone who has questions or comments about how to play the game to please contact us, either by email or on the forums so we can strive to make the most complete player's guide that we can. Your help in this would be much apreciated!

Spiffy new functionality has just been added to the Card Database. Each and every card now has it's own personal comment box, allowing discussions on an individual card's merits. This functionality will be exceptionally useful in the Card Laboratory as I think it will help the development process emmensely. Go ahead and check it out, I think it's pretty neat myself.

In other news, a new poll has opened up on the Choice Comics Forum where you can vote for our brand new Monster Attribute's icon from six different designs. We'd apreciate if everyone would head on over there and pick their favorite, which will be featured in our next deck which is currently in the works.

January 30, 2009

Our next deck of cards is currently under development, and to help pass the time we're having a little contest. Details and discussion can be found in the forums for all that are interested in getting in on the fun and possible winning a fabulous (to be determined) prize.

WAGON Webcomic Battle, and by extention Prepare to Die, is setting up for the upcoming convention season so we can start taking the game out into the masses! While we are already locked in to attend this summer's Wizard World Chicago August 6th through 9th, we are also looking into possibly making a venture out to PenguiCon in Romulus, Michigan this May 1st through 3rd. I've been asked to part of a webcomics panel to answer some questions about the industry and I hope to be getting some space to set up a few WWB demos to teach people how to play the cardgame. If anybody happens to be in the area for their convetion we'd love to see you guys there!
